height in interp_levels is above sea level or surface?

Postby xkhmyx » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:03 pm

In namelist.ARWpost,
if interp_method =1, users can define pressure/height levels

1) How does the program knows if interp_levels is for pressure or height?
Judging from the values?

<20 should be km, and >100 should be hPa?

2) If users want specify the height,
is the height above sea level or above the surface of land/sea?

For example, if the height is defined as 0.5 km above the surface,
the height above a 0.5km-tall mountain should he 1km?
Thanks!

It seems that interp_levels is above see level. You may check if the values in low layer which may under surface level are MISSING_VALUE.

Dear users,

I have found a ARWpost presentation where the topic about height in interp_levels is clarified. The height indroduced in interp_levels in namelist.ARWpost is the hieght in km above sea level.

You can follow this link and check it
