slope_rad and topo_shading

Postby lindsay » Thu Mar 19, 2009 7:08 am

Hello,

Has anyone implemented the slope_rad and topo_shading switches for the Dudhia shortwave radiation scheme?

I can't find any documentation about it.

I have done 2 simulations with and without the switches and there is very little difference between the runs. But without knowing anything about the details of these switches and whether any tests have been done I cannot interpret the results.

Thanks.

Did you run with very high resolution? My guess is that you won't see much of a difference unless the grid spacing is less than 1 km, so the topography is well resolved.

Yes, I am running an inner domain with 700m resolution, over the Black Forest topography, so there should definitely be some effects.
