Discuss advection schemes, timestepping, pressure gradients, coordinates, etc.
The user guide states that WRF uses a time-split small step for acoustic and gravity-wave modes. However, in other WRF explanations (for example in the description of the namelist variables) the small time step is called "acoustic" or "sound" step. So the question is, are gravity waves (non-acoustic branch) integrated with the small or the large time step ? In particular, I was not able to find any explanation describing how the non-acoustic gravity waves would become separated in order to integrate them apart from the larger scale fields.
