Hello everybody !

I am facing a situation that I do not understand and therefore i am asking for help in the community !

I am running wrf simulations forced by ERA Interim data downloaded from the cds climate data store.

First I would like to say that my first WRF simulation using 3 nested domains runs without failing. But the weird thing is that even though microphysics is activated, my mixing ratios (e.g. QRAIN, QCLOUD, ...) are all filled with zeroes except for QVAPOR. This is probably originating from the fact that in my wrfbdy, only the QVAPOR contain non-zero values.

I believe my problem is therefore coming from the way I am forcing my model. But WPS is not complaining about missing values...

Basically I downloaded the following fields from the cds store:

reanalysis-era5-single-levels : ['10m_u_component_of_wind',
'10m_v_component_of_wind',
'2m_temperature',
'mean_sea_level_pressure',
'sea_ice_cover',
'sea_surface_temperature',
'skin_temperature',
'snow_density',
'snow_depth',

'volumetric_soil_water_layer_2',

and
reanalysis-era5-pressure-levels: ['geopotential', 'specific_humidity','temperature',
'u_component_of_wind','v_component_of_wind']

Am I missing fields for the mixing ratios to be computed ?

Or does any one know about a good step by step tutorial to force WRF with microphysics from ERA5 ?

Well,

I found what I did wrong but just in case someone might do the same mistake as I did, I will keep my original post !

So, basically following tutorial on how to use ERA Interim Data to force the WRF model, I used the same call to the cds API as they did. However I believe they were just not using micro physics and therefore not needing the mixing ratios (hence not downloading them).

So just do not forget to include them all in the call and not only specific humidity which is mandatory for WRF to run:
