Running from first coupling file

Postby Remi » Tue Sep 20, 2011 9:48 am

Hi,

I might have missed it (and searches have led me nowhere) but is there a way to run WRF from the first GFS file and have the other coupling files be preprocessed as they arrive, and possibly WRF run wait for them if they're late?

It appears it's doable in other models, so I wonder if anyone has tackled that issue.

Cheers,

I am not sure if this is the same thing but you can always do a series of restarts. But in reality you have to have enough data to form the lateral boundary conditions which always requires the full data set over the time period you wish to make your forecast.

Otherwise you would have to run real.exe repeatedly as data comes in (e.g. duplicating running all the earlier times). Then keep relaunching wrf using the restart file and adding the new wrfbdy file. In theory it is possible since the Lateral Boundary Conditions are linear.
