Writing wrfout to another location

Postby gcreager » Tue May 11, 2010 5:40 pm

I've done a quick scan of the docs... I can't quickly find what I'm looking for but thought I'd seen it. I need to execute WRF in one directory and write output to another to facilitate parallel IO (pNetCDF). I thought there was a namelist variable that could allow me to accomplish this. Have I lost my mind, or misplaced a variable?

Option B is to copy data and code to where I need to write it and just do things "normally".

Thanks, gerry

Hey Gerry,

You ever figure out how to do this?

All,

I was curious about this too so I asked WRFhelp. They said that an option to write the wrfout files to a different path was NOT designed into WRF.

it's just simple:

HISTORY_OUTNAME = '/your/wrfout/path/wrfout_d<domain>_<date>',

I usually do a link and this works very well.
Like

ln -sf /outputdirectory/wrfout_d01_<date>_<hour> wrfout_d01_<date>_<hour>

when you do that the link will in red colour, so after start the running it will change for blue indicating that the link is working.

Specifing the history_outname in the namelist.input file seems to work just fine. Thanks Stenny, for this very useful tip! :mrgreen:

Its interesting that WRFhelp didn't mention this history_output option to me and that there is no reference to the history_outname anywhere in the WRF documentation.

Jrdias, your linking trick is very cool, I'll keep this in mind when tackling problems in the future.

This forum is such a valuable source of information, not sure what I would do with out it!!

Is there a comparable namelist variable for redirecting restart files? I tried restart_outname, but that didn't work...

To redirect wrfout and wrfrst files into a specified directory:

history_outname = '/directory/wrfout_d<domain>_<date>',
rst_inname = '/directory/wrfrst_d<domain>_<date>',
rst_outname = '/directory/wrfrst_d<domain>_<date>',
