Relative Performance of EPYC vs. Latest Intel CPUs

Postby davman » Wed Feb 06, 2019 6:12 pm

We are looking at supporting a cloud based solution for running WRF models, and are trying to decide if an AMD Epyc based cluster would be a good choice. Dell performed some Epyc based testing on a couple models, and posted decent information, but did not make any conclusions vs. Intel, just scaling.

If anyone can assist in letting us know the relative performance vs current (Scalable-CPU) or even previous Intel CPU it would be super helpful, and we would be very appreciative.

Hi Dave...

I use Intel SKX aka Skylake on STAMPEDE2/TACC, and I'm quite happy with them. I'm doing FV3 runs.
I ran the global version last year, and will be running the regional version this year. I'm told that TACC uses
the high end version of the SKYLAKE line.

I've never used any AMD systems.

Thanks for that,

kwthomas, any comment on the Dell tests, good or bad?
