Error : Can not find geogrid.exe

Postby colopolo70 » Sat Feb 21, 2009 1:20 am

Hi, everyone

When I click on geogrid.exe (Step 4? maybe), I get the error which can not fine geogrid.exe.

In wrf domain wizard's website,
"If you get an error message like "geogrid.log is not found" then you are probably trying to run a parallel version of geogrid. Parallel compiled code should be submitted through job queuing software which is not yet possible to do through Domain Wizard. Either
run the WPS executables outside of Domain Wizard (in a job queuing system), or recompile WPS in serial mode and then use Domain Wizard. The compilation option for compiling WPS is independent of the compilation option used for WRF. So, you could compile WRF parallel and WPS serial. "

BUT, MY system is not parallel system. I always compile WRF/WPS as serial.
I reinstalled wrf domain wizard, but I got the same error.
Is there anyone let me know how to fix this error?

When you first start WRF Domain Wizard, a window pops up that prompts you for your WPS directory. Look closely at this--are you specifying the correct directory? Is geogrid.exe in that directory?

By the way, WRF Domain Wizard can run the WPS programs in parallel now. Click on the "Job Command" button to set this up.

Please solve my problem..-_-;;

I did specified the right directory at very first prompts. but i got this message;

/work/WPS2/E01/geogrid.log is Not Found;
***CANNOT continue request***
Attempt number 1 to find and read geogrid.log

/work/WPS2/E01/geogrid.log is Not Found;
***CANNOT continue request***
Attempt number 2 to find and read geogrid.log

/work/WPS2/E01/geogrid.log is Not Found;
***CANNOT continue request***
Attempt number 3 to find and read geogrid.log

Question: why does Domain wizard try to look for geogrid.log UNDER my work directory?
where, WPS2 is the WPS main directory, E01 is my working directory.
geogrid.exe file is located in WPS main directory (actually link file, when I compiled WPS)
everything is ok when I make this procedure without domain wizard, but when I use domain wizard, I get always this problem.

Thank you for your concerned,

Does this file even exist?
/work/WPS2/E01/geogrid.log

It appears that you specified /work/WPS2 as your "Domains Directory" on the WRF Domain Wizard Configuration window. You should probably specify a different directory than your WPS directory (you don't want WRF Domain Wizard creating directories and deleting files there). How about something like /work/my_domains

By the way, the geogrid.log file gets written to your domain directory, and geogrid output files get written there as well.

Which operating system are you using?

Thank you for your reply.
The operation system is Ubuntu linux.

I also did make working directory as a different directory but it also does not work for me.

I configurated like this

WPS programs : /work/WPS2 (compile is done and has all exe files are generated)
Geography : /work/test/geog (it is downloaded)
Domains :/work/WPS2/

then click 'ok', i choose New domain. Next I write the name of New Domain (E01).
Finally working domain directory is /work/WPS2/E01/

When I reach the step 5, I get this problem. Any log files does not exist in the working directory.
I think there are some linked problem between WPS and domain directory.
The below (make another domain directory) is shown up in step 5.
---------
Domain Name is /work/test/A/q
List Vtable found
Vtable-> /work/WPS2/ungrib/Variable_Tables/Vtable.GFS
Vtable.GFS-> /work/WPS2/ungrib/Variable_Tables/Vtable.GFS
---------
then click on 'geogrid',

/work/test/A/q/geogrid.log is Not Found;
***CANNOT continue request***
Attempt number 1 to find and read geogrid.log
/work/test/A/q/geogrid.log is Not Found;
***CANNOT continue request***
Attempt number 2 to find and read geogrid.log
/work/test/A/q/geogrid.log is Not Found;
***CANNOT continue request***
Attempt number 3 to find and read geogrid.log
After three attempts to find geogrid.log ...now giving up.
- - - - - - - List of Output - - - - - - -
List of geogrid.exe files found
No geo_* files were found.
---------------------------------------------------
geogrid.log file cannot generate in the domain directory.

I appreciate you give me any idea to solve this one.

There is some issue with Ubuntu and the system level code in WRF Domain Wizard that launches geogrid.exe and reads the geogrid log file.

Unfortunately, I don't have an Ubuntu machine to test this on (yet).

For now, you can use WDW to create your namelist.wps and namelist.input files, but then I'm afraid that you'll have to run geogrid, ungrib, and metgrid from the command line.
