Dust option for WRF-Chem 3.8.1 with MOSAIC (chem_opt=10)

Any issues with running WRF Chemistry

Dust option for WRF-Chem 3.8.1 with MOSAIC (chem_opt=10)

Postby Niteo » Thu Aug 18, 2016 10:52 am

Just started with version 3.8.1. The model refuses to run with dust_opt=2 and MOSAIC aerosol model selected, although this setting is a recommended option in user guide 3.7.

WARNING: dust option 2 currently does not function properly and has been disabled.

Could anyone please comment on this issue? Why is dust_opt=2 is not supported anymore and what should be used instead? Is it not recommended to use dust_opt=2 in older versions as well?

Hi,
I've asked WRF-Chem people about that a while ago. The reply is: "The dust schemes used in the MADE aerosol options lack gravitational settling.". There is no alternative dust_opt for MOSAIC. I guess we need to wait for a patch (they said that it is easy to fix).

Greetings,

Has there been a fix to this problem? Dust_opt = 2 is still disabled in WRF-Chem 3.9.1. Does this mean that one cannot treat dust aerosol with MOSAIC at current?

Thanks,
-Stefan
