RIP4 problem with WRF V3.1 output

The RIP4 graphics package.

RIP4 problem with WRF V3.1 output

Postby waghorn » Thu Nov 19, 2009 9:16 am

My RIP4 package has worked on output from V2 and V3.0. It now fails on V3.1 with
Processing basic variables.

NetCDF error in ripdp_wrfarw. Marker = 78.00000

Variable not found

I presume it is not finding one of the basic variables it must have ie_

Horizontal wind (y-comp.), m/s
Horizontal wind (y-comp.), m/s
Temperature, K
Geopotential height, m
Pressure, hPa
Terrain height AMSL, m
Surface pressure, hPa
Map factor on cross points
map factor on dot points
Coriolis parameter, per s

according to the manual.

Can you advise what Marker=78.00000 is?
What has changed in the netCDF output in V3.1 from V3.0?

Thanks,
David

For anybody else coming across this/similar problem. My WRF netCDF output was missing a required variable. In this case the Coriolis Factor.

I apply the patch for Coriolis for WRF 3.4 >>> Still I have this message
AFTER STARTING A RIP ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Data is recognized as WRF data.

SIMULATION_START_DATE exists, use it as start_date
start_date=2014-01-10_00:00:00
Welcome to your friendly RIPDP (V4.6) output file !
Note: RIPDP will process all times encountered.
Found QSNOW variable, set iice = 1

**** Reading model output at
forecast time= 0.00000000

Processing basic variables.

NetCDF error in ripdp_wrfarw. Marker = 78.0000000
NetCDF: Variable not found

Any advice pls.

Can you post a header dump of a netcdf output file eg
Code: Select all
ncdump -h wrfout_something > ncdump.txt

you must still be missing something.

I attach ncdump report into file.

Thanks in advance

I can't see Coriolis here - 'E' or 'F'- so you need to check you've applied the hack correctly. I presume from the output you're using WRFEMS 3.4.1 .Your 'my_iofields_list.txt' should have this line-
+:h:0:E,F

You are right
file was in a wrong place

So I add this file again and check

Tomorrow at 11:00 I will have new forecast files, I will create ncdump report from the product and send as a rar again...

As I can see Coriolis is in output files.

I started RIP and now when RIP works, I will need a work to have a new question.

Thanks a lot.
