operate on fields?

Postby gwest » Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:40 am

Is there any way to operate on the fields in RIP? As in doing something simple like say, multiplying divergence x 100? There's so many keyword options in the appendix A of the users guide, but I dont see anything like that. I could go in and edit the src code, but id rather just do it in the plot specification table. Thanks for any help.

In case someone else finds this useful (there might be a better way) you can multiply/divide fields using 'addf'

According to the RIP manual (and some tries), addf can be used to make a linear combination of fields (ie a x field1 + b x field2 + ...) but not to make division/multiplication of a field by another field.

I'd like to calculate and plot VIL density, defined (in g/m^3) by 1000 x VIL/echo tops height. Anyone knows how to do that?

Me too, I'm looking to convert "Celsius ground temperature" (tgc) to Fahrenheit, since there isn't a "tgf" option.

Using "addf", I can multiply tgc by 9/5 like this:
feld=tgc; ptyp=hc; addf=0.8
feld=tgc; ptyp=hc; cmth=cont; cint=2

but I don't know how to add 32. Any suggestions?
