geogrid plot

Postby nogherotto » Mon Jun 14, 2010 8:55 am

Hello,
I am trying to plot the domain after having compiled geogrid.exe.

My namelist.wps file is:

&share
wrf_core = 'ARW',
max_dom = 1,
start_date = '2006-08-16_12:00:00','2006-08-16_12:00:00',
end_date = '2006-08-16_18:00:00','2006-08-16_12:00:00',
interval_seconds = 21600
io_form_geogrid = 2,
/

&geogrid
parent_id = 1, 1,
parent_grid_ratio = 1, 3,
i_parent_start = 1, 31,
j_parent_start = 1, 17,
e_we = 600, 112,
e_sn = 665, 97,
geog_data_res = '10m','2m',
dx = 3000,
dy = 3000,
map_proj = 'lambert',
ref_lat = 45.83,
ref_lon = 10.03,
truelat1 = 30.0,
truelat2 = 60.0,
stand_lon = -9.0,
geog_data_path = '/home/lv70150/nrita/wrf/WPS/data/geog'
/

&ungrib
out_format = 'WPS',
prefix = 'FILE',
/

&metgrid
fg_name = 'FILE'
io_form_metgrid = 2,

and i am trying to plot using NCL with this script:

ncl 0> load "/usr/share/ncarg/nclscripts/csm/gsn_code.ncl"
ncl 1> load "/usr/share/ncarg/nclscripts/wrf/WRFUserARW.ncl" ; Add special wrf functions
ncl 2> begin
ncl 3> a = addfile("./geo_em.d01.nc","r")
ncl 4> type = "x11"
ncl 5> ; type = "pdf"
ncl 6> ; type = "ps"
ncl 7> ; type = "ncgm"
ncl 8> wks = gsn_open_wks(type,"prova") ; Create a plot workstation
ncl 9> opts = True ; Set some Basic Plot options
ncl 10> opts@MainTitle = "GEOGRID FIELDS"
ncl 11> ter = a->HGT_M(0,:,:) ; Read the variable to memory
ncl 12> res = opts ; Use basic options for this field
ncl 13> res@cnFillOn = True ; Create a color fill plot
ncl 14> contour = wrf_contour(a,wks,ter,res)
ncl 15> pltres = True ; Set plot options
ncl 16> mpres = True ; Set map options
ncl 17> plot = wrf_map_overlays(a,wks,(/contour/),pltres,mpres) ; Plot the data over a map background
ncl 18> ;type = pdf
ncl 19> end

I get this error:
fatal:Subscript out of range, error in subscript #0
fatal:Execute: Error occurred at or near line 11

but plotting with a smaller domain like:
e_we = 500, 112,
e_sn = 565, 97,
it works

where is the problem? I would need a big domain with an high resolution..
What can I do?

Thank you

Rita

Try this
ter = a->HGT_M

printVarSummary(ter)

The variable is 3d you are correct, but NCL might not read it in as such. The print command should clarify how it gets read in.

I tried to plot my domain using plotgrids.ncl. But the following error has occurred. Please help me,
