Error in running WRF-4DVar!

Postby juanzhao » Tue Apr 27, 2010 9:16 pm

Hi,
When I was running WRF-4DVar (WRFDAV3.2) following the instructions in user's guide (http://www.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/wrfda ... _WRF-Var_1), I encountered problems in running both the tangent linear model (tl) and adjoint model (ad). The error messages show like that:
Time in file: 2006-06-06_23:54:00
DEBUG wrf_timetoa(): returning with str = [2006-06-06_23:57:00]
Time on domain: 2006-06-06_23:57:00
**WARNING** Time in input file not equal to time on domain **WARNING**

The resulting cost function increase remarkably and analysis increment is unreasonably large . However, the WRFVAR can still be completed and shows *** WRF-Var completed successfully ***.

I've tried different configurations in tl/namelist.input and ad/namelist.input files, but it didn't work.

Did anyone have the similar experience and solve the problem?
Thank you very much!

Hi, Zhaojuan,

ad/ gave me similar warning "**WARNING** Time in input file not equal to time on domain", but nl/ and tl/ did not.

I also got a wrong result when I try to assimilate sounding data using WRFVAR3.2 (linux pgf90). It gave me an ~ -300m/s u wind at low levels.

So, I go thru the tutorial case (2008020512Z), and 4dvar gave me an ~ -80m/s u wind. Do you have similar result for that tutorial case?

Hi, you2

Yes, I'm in the same situation.

Whatever the testcase or my case, the analysis increments are unreasonably large and the cost function increases remarkably.

If you have any suggestion, please tell me. Thank you!

Hi Zhaojuan,

Could you please tell me what computer and what FORTRAN compiler version you are using? I guess either the result of testcase is like that or you and I use the invalid computer and compiler.

I am using linux86-64, version 6.1.

Thanks,

Hi, you2

You are right. WRFHELP has suggested me to use IBM XLF compiler.

Now I'm using the same platform as you.
