Real-time SST data issue

Postby cyclone6 » Mon Sep 10, 2018 1:40 pm

Hello,

I am running global wrf simulations at 00Z, and would like to use SST data to initialize. The problem is that the SST data for the current day is not posted until 1645 MDT (2245 Z). So the day is almost over before the data becomes available.

Is there some other place other than ftp://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/sst/rtg_high_res/ to get this data, since it is almost a day old by the time the 00Z run could be going? Or some easy way to modify the previous days SST file so that WPS doesn't stop when it can't find the correct time?

Thanks...

I figured this out. Since SST changes so slowly, there is no need to have data available for the exact time of the WRF run initiation. The most recent SST file available can be used by employing the "constants_name" variable in metgrid.

Just run WPS for the time period corresponding to the SST file time alone, and then incorporate it into the main WPS run using the constants_name variable.
