Hinterp fails to complete - Repost from old forum

Postby malonso » Sun Nov 30, 2008 12:54 am

Hello,
I am attempting to set up a nested run using the WRFSI GUI on a single processor Linux box. Everything went fine until I reached the step to run wrfprep.pl. For some reason I'm getting an error "FAILURE: hinterp failed to complete." Here is my log file for wrfprep.pl:

Code: Select all

I then looked in the hinterp log file but I could not find any errors or anything to suggest why it didn't work. Here is what it says at the bottom of the log file:

Done with variable output.
Code: Select all
HINTERP: Completed for domain:  2
* Make sure to set model top <= 50mb (or to
* the lowest pressure level in your dataset).

The only files that were created in my $MOAD_DATAROOT/siprd/ directory were:

hinterp.d01.2005-08-12_12:00:00
hinterp.d01.2005-08-12_15:00:00
hinterp.d01.2005-08-12_18:00:00
hinterp.d01.2005-08-12_21:00:00
hinterp.d01.2005-08-13_00:00:00
hinterp.d01.2005-08-13_03:00:00
hinterp.d02.2005-08-12_12:00:00
hinterp.global.metadata

however no "wrf_real_input_em" files were created. Does anyone know what could be going on here? It is probably something simple that I am overlooking but so far I cannot figure it out. Thanks for the help

Phil...

If you aren't using the recently released WRFSI 2.1, upgrade. The new release contains a bug fix for an uninitialized variable in "hinterp".

What did you use as PTOP in wrfsi.nl?

For Eta data, it needs to be no less than 50 mb or PTOP_PA = 5000.

Thanks for the replies,
I found my problem. Apparantly grib_prep did not run to completion and the ETA:2005-08-13_06 file was not generated, which was needed by wrfprep because my forecast end time was 04Z. All I had to do was change my forecast length to 18 hours and rerun grib_prep from the GUI, and that fixed the problem. Thanks again.
