Precipitable water vapor from WRF output

Postby sureshrka » Fri May 09, 2008 12:38 am

Hi Wrf users !
Does WRF can give precipitable water vapor (PWV) as output ? if it is, what are the required steps we have to follow to get PWV in wrfout**** files.

Thanks in advance.

You probably need to add that variable to the model if you want it in the output file.
Start by adding it to the Registry.EM file.
Now you can calculate precipitable water possibly right in the solve_em.F code where you would have full pressure and qvapor available to do the integeration.

Is it necessary for you to have PWV in WRF output?
PWV can be calculated from p and q.
Also, RIP4 can make the plot with feld=pcpwv
