Need to specify explicitly all eta-levels in WRF3.6 (ideal)?

Anything related to the idealized simulations in WRF.

Need to specify explicitly all eta-levels in WRF3.6 (ideal)?

I've been running WRF V3.6 in an idealized case based on the seabreeze2d_x example.

When I kept the default eta-levels in the namelist, the simulation was running fine.
But I thought I could run it without specifying the eta-levels explicitly, as it seems to be possible for version 3.5 (according to postdocs around me) and as it seems to be possible for real cases in V3.6 (accordding to the WRF documentation). This would allow me to change the number of vertical levels (via e_vert) very easily, without having to come up with smartly chosen explicit levels. But the simulation was always crashing! I had to explicitly specify all the eta-levels for it to run again!

Is this a bug?
Is there a way I can just specify the number of levels I want without having to decide their eta value explicitly?
Why was it working for V3.5 but not for V3.6?
How can I fix this?

This problem has taken me a lot of time already, so please help if you have a clue!!
Thank you very much for your time!

Not sure if you already solved that problem but a solution like

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5970

might be of use
