Aerosols in WRF

Postby nidhi » Tue Mar 25, 2014 8:40 pm

Hi All,
I am trying to add aerosol in the WRF model in order to study cloud invigoration . Also I want to apply the aerosols hetrogeneously over the domain i.e either at a point or group of points and then look its effect over time.

I am very new to WRF so am not able to figure out that how can I do it, basically I want to know what codes are to be edited, where are those codes located and what things to add or edit. Also I don't want to complicate the things and hence want my aerosols to only act as CCN and not to be chemically active.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

What you need seems complicated and might require the use of WRF-Chem. Mimicking aerosols can be done in an extremely simplified manner by altering the number of cloud droplets in a 2 moment microphysics scheme. Doing this still wouldn't give you the ability to apply aerosols heterogeneously IMO.

On another note, you might want to look at WRF 3.6. They have spectral bin microphysics and a new Thompson scheme that can take in aerosols. That might help.

Hi nidhi:
Have you soloved this problem? Can you tell me how to do this ?
DO I need to change the mismixactibe.F ?
