Nestdown lower boundary conditions?

Postby swinges » Fri Jul 08, 2016 1:54 pm

I have a pretty specific question regarding using nestdown (ndown). I'm curious to know how the lower boundary conditions are applied - whether they are taken from the coarse grid, or can you specify them for a finer grid? Specifically I'm looking at Sea Surface Temperature (SST). Can I only apply a higher resolution field of data for the boundary condition at the INITIAL start time when using ndown, or will it use the higher resolution field for ALL time periods?

I realize this one is pretty specific, which is probably why I haven't been able to find an answer so far. Does anyone know? I'm looking at an area where I know high resolution SST is extremely important, so I'm concerned that using ndown will override the high res data with coarse data after the initial boundary conditions.

Thanks!
